Internet Banking
The VAT Department in collaboration with the two major commercial banks in Malta has introduced a new service to enable VAT registered persons to pay their VAT dues on-line. One may opt to use either the HSBC Malta internet banking service or else the Bank of Valletta p.l.c. 24x7 service.
Through internet banking, no limit is imposed on any payment amount. Thus registered persons may effect the whole payment due to the VAT Department according to the VAT return of that particular tax period.
Payment may be affected by logging in to your chosen Bank's Internet Banking site, keying in the VAT Registration Number (without 'MT' and dash '-'), the Period Start Date and the Amount to be paid for that particular tax period.
Prior to effecting payment, please make sure that the Period Start Date is entered correctly. Any payment accompanied by an invalid Period Start Date would be directed to the earliest unsettled tax period.
The VAT Department advises registered persons effecting such payments to print and retain the acknowledgement notice issued from the bank's website for any future reference.

If you are an existing BOV 24x7 subscriber simply select the 'VAT Department' from the drop-down list available under the 'Bill Payment Facility' menu. Once you are in this section just fill in the fields available, namely:
a) VAT Number: Input your VAT Number.
b) Period Start Date: Input the period start date in a dd/mm/yyyy format.
c) Transaction Date: Input the date of the payment in a dd/mm/yyyy format.

Authorise your payment in a secure way using the BOV Securekey.

An acknowledgement screen will be prompted to confirm that payment has been effected. In case of difficulty, call the BOV Customer Service Centre on 2131 2020. An acknowledgement may be printed by clicking on the 'print icon' available on the top right hand corner of the screen.

From the Main Menu select 'Pay bills'. Select 'Add Payee'. Input 'VAT' and press 'Search' button.

Click on displayed Merchant name (VAT Department). Input VAT Number*Period Start date (8digits*6digits) in the reference field and click on Add. VAT Number should be 8 digits i.e. without the MT and hyphen e.g. 99999999. Period Start date should be in the format of ddmmyy e.g. 010107 - meaning 1st Jan 2007. Click on 'Confirm' in the Review screen if details are correct. Acknowledgement screen will be prompted.

Once Payee has been set up - you may effect payments by clicking on Pay a Bill option. Choose VAT Department Payee from the drop-down list. Fill in the amount to be remitted. Fill in the Transaction details for your account. Click on 'Confirm' in the Review screen id the details are correct. An acknowledgement screen will be prompted to confirm that payment has been effected. In case of difficulty call HSBC Customer Helpline 2380 2380.
